Our HIPGive campaign was extremely successful.

Thanks to the support of our donors, we raised enough money to send 6 youngsters to camp.

Five campers display flags of five  World Cup 2014 participants

Gabriel, an intern at LAWA, keeps a log:

Day 1

Christian, Kaleb, Macdaleno, Lexi, Leslie, and Veronica, are at summer camp!

Each day, the kids start with a one hour tutoring session, led by certified ESL instructor Rachel Longbrook. They are collaboratively reading  The Courage of Sarah Noble  by Alice Dalgliesh.

At the end of the camp they will be evaluated for reading comprehension, as well as for the ability to successfully define key vocabulary words found in the story.

Following the daily academic session, the students learn the basics of soccer: How to trap, pass, and dribble the ball with maximum control.

Trainers Maria, Rafael and Skeeter stress the importance of stretching and remaining hydrated to prevent any injuries or cramps.

Afterwards, the kids cool down and relax in the pool

The first day of camp was a huge success.

The Courage of Sarah Noble captured their imagination; getting to know fellow campers is a great experience.

They went home knowing that the best is yet to come...
